Oh nooooooooooo!!! We have bad news…at least it’s bad news if you don’t already have a ticket…our Jazz Jamaica Christmas Party on Saturday 12 December at our favourite club, The Hideaway in Streatham is completely SOLD OUT!!!! They can’t even squeeze a sneeze into the building, never mind another human being as the gig is RAM, CHOKKA, FULL UP,PROPERSOLD OUT!!! Which is a shame because it means loads of people will miss our very special guest…the legendary Winston ‘Mr Fix It’ Francis!
So, sadly, unless you’re planning to be in Mexico this weekend, you’ve missed your chance to catch us this side of 2015. But, if you do just happen to be in Guadalajara on 6 December, you can catch us there, closing the 9 day Guadalajara International Book Festival – a cultural festival in which the UK is the Guest of Honour in 2015, and which brings to a close a year-long celebration of cultural, educational and business exchanges between the UK and Mexico. #UKMX2015
For those who did manage to get tickets to our Christmas Party, we’re all looking forward to a great gig (as always at The Hideaway!) and to helping you skank your way into the festive holiday season.
Plenty fun had by all at Jazz Jamaica‘s Jamaican Independence Party at The Hideawayin Streatham on Saturday. Love and respect to our special guest, Myrna Hague from Jamaica and to Chicago bluesman, my friend Fernando Jones.
I’m always happy to be back at this club. It’s like a home from home, even if it is on the opposite side of London to where I live. It was great to see so many of you come out to celebrate. A massive THANK YOU to all those who came down to party with us!
Massive THANKS also to club owner Fran Strachan and all of her team who always work so hard to make sure our wonderful audience [because, of all the audiences…! 😉 ] and all members of the band have a great experience at the club. We’re going to be back at Christmas – date to be announced shortly so keep your eyes peeled. We’re already looking forward to it. Soon come…
Three great gigs I’m looking forward to over the next few weeks, playing with some of my favourite friends.
Here’s the first one, with my band, Groundation at the Summer Of Love Party on Friday 24 July when we’ll be bringing our afro jazz vibes to a bit of a hang in Hawkhurst in Kent! Joining me are the incomparable Nathaniel Facey, Shirley Tetteh and Moses Boyd. (Thanks to Steve @ FunkyFeet Photography for the great pic!)
Then on Saturday 25 July, I have the great pleasure of performing Coltrane’s A Love Supreme with Denys Baptiste, Rod Youngs and Joe Armon-Jones at the Hull Truck Theatre (part of the 2015 Hull Jazz Festival). I know…we only played this suite a couple of weeks ago at Southbank Centre, and we’re still buzzing from the great vibe there, but it’s an extraordinary piece of music that, without fail, gets all of us excited about playing it again.
Then I have a couple of weeks to get my party head in gear for Jazz Jamaica‘s favourite club gig, celebrating Jamaican Independence at The Hideaway in Streatham, South London on Saturday 8 August. Always a pleasure, we have the lovely Ms Myrna Hague joining us again. Plus…we’re planning to introduce a new young vocal talent…But you have to come along if you want to find out who!
Come have some fun with us and celebrate Jamaican Independence on Saturday 8 August at The Hideaway in Streatham, South London on Saturday 8 August. We have the wonderful Myrna Hague as our special guest, plus there’s brilliant comedy with Felicity Ethnic!
