Jazz Jamaica is supersizing and I’m putting my big band, Jazz Jamaica All Stars back on the road as part of our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Jamaican Independence.
I’ve added 10 jazz musicians to the regular line-up (bringing it up to 20) and invited my reggae spar Brinsley Forde (Aswad), and strings maestro Stephen Hussey who heads up Urban Soul Orchestra, to join us for a major tribute to Bob Marley and The Wailers. We’re going to be doing some giant big band arrangements of their classic album, Catch A Fire so I’ve commissioned Jazz Jamaica All Stars’ music arranger supremo, Jason Yarde to prepare the music. All in all, we’re going to have a massive 30-piece orchestra on stage, kept in line by my good friend and musical director, Kevin Robinson. Watch out!
