As well as being a working musician and band leader, I am very proud and privileged to be the Artistic Director of Tomorrow’s Warriors, a not-for-profit organisation I founded in 1992 to increase racial, cultural and gender diversity in the UK music mainstream. It’s a fantastic organisation that now offers development opportunities to hundreds of new, emerging and established musicians from diverse backgrounds through our ongoing weekend residency at the Southbank Centre in London – the world’s largest single-run arts venue.
Tomorrow’s Warriors is core funded by Arts Council England as one of the funder’s beacon National Portfolio Organisations (NPO). However, we rely on donated income to deliver the bulk of our activities – all of which are currently free at the point of access – so I’m always happy to hear from anyone who wants to help us support these incredibly talented young people to achieve their full potential in and through music.
